About the Role

As an Appointee Caseworker, you will act on behalf of Calderdale Council as a DWP Appointee, supporting adults who need help to manage their own finances to make the most of their money and improve their quality of life. 

Working closely with social care teams, care providers and families, you will always act in the person’s best interests.  

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing a caseload of vulnerable adults’ financial affairs
  • Making welfare benefit applications to maximise income
  • Setting up and monitoring budgets, bank accounts and spending plans
  • Working with partners including social care, DWP, housing providers and creditors
  • Carrying out regular reviews and audits including home visits
  • Supporting Appointee and Deputy Officers with Public Authority Deputy cases

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Accountable, organised, proactive and confident in decision-making
  • Empathetic and professional when handling sensitive situations 
  • Confident managing finances and analysing information
  • Knowledgeable and understands welfare benefits, including Housing Benefit and Council Tax reduction and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Can communicate clearly to work effectively with individuals, families and professionals

Additional Information

  • Enhanced (Adults Barred List) DBS check required 
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle essential
